Here We Go

So, after months of consideration and preparation, it all comes down to this. The Three-Day Novel Contest is upon me. Coffee is brewing. Everything is in place. It’s time.

I got quite a bit done of what I wanted to do to prepare for this. I have the characters, and I’ve gotten to know them a little in ficlets. I have the taxis. I have a history of the characters and the company in my head. I don’t have an outline, but I do know how the story starts, and most writers think outlines are overrated anyway.

In truth, I’m very apprehensive about the event. I’m better prepared than I was two years ago when I completed Winter Kills, but I wish I knew what was in the briefcase, and what was going to happen to get it back. In the back of my mind too is the talk I heard two years ago on the forums about a “sophomore jinx”.

My plan is to begin writing at midnight and to write for twenty four hours straight. I’ll get six hours of sleep on Saturday at midnight, and another on Sunday at midnight. That will leave me sixty out of the seventy-two hours for writing. I hope to get at least 10,000 words the first day, 15,000 the second, and 10,000 the third, plus some revisions. We’ll see how it goes.

Enough. Time for planning is over. Midnight is here, and I’m off…
